It is incredible to go back and look at your early work and compare it to now to see how far you’ve actually come!
I got my very first DSLR camera on my birthday March 2nd 2011. I was beyond happy, I was beyond excited. I had been wishing for it for over half a year and the day had finally come where I could get my beloved camera. I didn’t really have much of an interest in photography before, but suddenly it exploded and I couldn’t stop thinking about it. Sure I had been using my point and shoot for vacations and fun things and such, but sadly it wasn’t cutting it for anymore. I needed something better. I wanted to be able to catch something moving without getting a completely blurry photo.
I sat down at my computer and started looking and searching everywhere, asking for advice as to which camera would be a good one to start with. Me and my dad visited some camera stores across the country and it really helped me to determine which camera to choose. It was a great feeling holding it in my hand and I knew it was something I would love doing.
It was about a year ago, probably late March/early April (I don’t have an exact date because it wasn’t just something I decided, I kind of just did it without really knowing what I was doing) I started going more into photography and learning more about the subject.
Since then I’ve learned so much! Back when I was just getting my feet wet I was shooting in full AUTO, only JPEG’s and I had no idea how to use Photoshop at all, not even the slightest. It was all so scary and I was kind of afraid to jump right in. Now, I am still not mastering either Photoshop nor manual mode by any means, but I can do so much more now and I’ve gotten much better with manual mode! I am now even shooting in RAW which I never thought I would! And I don’t think I could ever go back to just shooting JPEG’s. Back then I didn’t even know there was something called RAW.
I started my photography page on Facebook last year on April 2nd, and I haven’t regretted it ever since. I love all my followers on my page and I can’t even explain how much I appreciate all the love everyone is giving me. I don’t even deserve half of it! It is just absolutely wonderful. My page has grown and grown along with my growth, and I couldn’t be happier.
I think this diptych (see below) shows pretty much, how much I’ve actually grown this past year, both photography wise and editing wise! The first photo has no editing at all and the second has and also includes an action (which I never thought I could learn how to use either).
Now and then
If you believe and have confidence in yourself, you will succeed and you will grow so much. I am nowhere near perfect, but it is nice to look back and see the changes and improvements when you just feel like you aren’t good enough or that you are stuck.
My feet are definitely no more just “getting wet”, they are completely soaked at this moment, and now I’m trying to get my whole body under water and just jumping all in! And it will happen surely, but slowly over all these coming years. I can’t wait to learn more and explore the ever wonderful world of photography.
I’ve learned so much, and I’m so thankful for all who have helped me through this year, this wonderful journey of photography. I’ve gotten to know so many incredible people and I’m so grateful for all of them. You are all so amazing and mean so much to me.
A very special thank you goes to the ever amazing Erika Darcy of Wonderfall Photography. She has been a constant support for me and has helped me so much! I can’t even explain how much she means to me and how much she has done for me. She invited me in to her group of fantastic and supportive photographers, and I am forever grateful to her. Thank you more than words can describe, sweet Erika, I love you dearly.
